What is Alpha Ketoglutarate?

Alpha ketoglutarate (AKG) is a precursor to glutamine and glutamate, which makes it a central fuel in various metabolic processes. Combined with ornithine, and amino acid, alpha ketoglutarate forms a salt (ornithine alpha ketoglutarate, or OKG) that is commonly taken by bodybuilders and athletes to help with muscle growth, endurance, and recovery.

Alpha ketoglutarate is also available with arginine as L-arginine alpha ketoglutarate (AAKG).
